11. november 2007 - Its a wrap!

After 7 days of shooting, some cutting and one additional day of shooting pick ups we could finally wrap. Red Terror looks great! But how did we do this?

After the first day of shooting, everyone in the team was very enthused about Red Terror. We had done great work.

The second day was rather easy. It was a necessary break before the weekend – the two busiest days on the Red Terror set. On Saturday we had a group of ca. 20 extras, 6 actors, an armourer, 2 military consultants, 1 make up artist, the entire film crew, a lot of vehicles and guns and, of course, family and friends. Joel and his team directed and organized the chaos on set. Nick and Dominik dealt with the organization. They organized food, financial and legal stuff; only to name a few, while Liv and Elena were preparing the cast for the following scenes. But what’s a perfect day without problems? The BBQ didn’t work. We had just wasted money on sausages and had to spend more on sandwiches to keep the team happy.

Sunday went smoothly. Not as many people and not as many props. And we had learned form the day before.

The Cast had the day off on Monday, while the crew was setting up for our night shoots at our 2nd location in Ormeau. The first night was a disaster. The generator didn’t work. So we had no lights and couldn’t film. After a couple of hours of trying to fix the damn thing, we finally gave up and postponed the shooting by one day.

Now, of course, everything had to happen fast since we didn’t have the money to add another day of shooting. First Justin, Joel and Dominik organized a new generator. More powerful but more expensive. Then we set up and waited for the rest of the team to arrive so we could start filming at sunset. Under the supervision of the local fire department shooting continued the next day as soon as it was dark. This would become the longest day of Red Terror. We were filming for 12 hours and finally wrapped at 5:30 a.m. the next day.

After we took a look at the footage Joel decided that we needed to do some pick up shots. We did this last Sunday. Joel got all the shots he wanted and we’re now looking forward to see the new, improved version of Red Terror.

27. September 2007 - We are filming!!

Today we had our first day of shooting Red Terror. The mud hut village looks great. All minor problems have been solved.

The 1st day started with unexpected rain. So instead of making a film we had to protect our most valuable assets. The camera and the mud huts.

One hour later rain stopped and filming finally started. From this moment on, everything went smoothly. We were able to get all the shots Joel had scheduled for today.

The first day started at 8 a.m and ended at 5.30 p.m and everyone left the set knowing that Red Terror will be an amazing film.

22. September 2007 - Operation Mud huts
A week ago we entered the final phase of the production of Red Terror. We started building the Ethiopian mud hut village on our location in Jimboomba. Digging holes, mixing cement and using a nail gun was a lot of fun. The best part, however, is camping on location afterwards. We have a nice little command centre consisting of 3 tents and a barbeque. We will be living outside for the next 5 days until filming commences on the 27th of September.
4. July 2007 - Royal Review

Red Terror gets support from Dr. Prince Asfa-Wossen Asserate, grandnephew of the last Ethiopian Emperor and Son of the last President of the imperial crown council.

The movie Red Terror is supported by the bestselling author Dr. Prince Asfa-Wossen Asserate. “Due to its concept and the clever story Red Terror will contribute to raise public awareness of the most terrible era in Ethiopian history (1974 – 1991), the murders and the violation of human rights under Mengistu Haile Mariam.” Dr. Prince Asfa-Wossen Asserate stresses that the Ethiopian Red Terror, the terrifying culmination of this era, must not disappear into oblivion.

Dr. Prince Asfa-Wossen Asserate, bestselling author of his autobiography and “Manners” is a grandnephew of the last Ethiopian Emperor and Son of the last President of the imperial crown council. He studied law, economics and history at the University of Tubingen, Cambridge. In 1978 he received a PhD in Ethiopian History in Frankfurt. He is still living in Germany, working as a management consultant for Africa and the Middle East.

20. June 2007 - The pitch

Today we had to pitch our film to a Jury at Bond University in order to get their approval.

We faced the competition of more than ten different, high profile ideas. The worst part by far was waiting for the jury to make their decision. Although we were pretty confident that we had done a great job, everyone in our team was a little tense.

In the end, Red Terror was among those projects that got approved by the University which not only speaks for the quality of the script and the quality of the crew, but also assures a great deal of support.

15. June 2007 - We are online!
The new official website was launched today. www.redterrormovie.com - spread the word.
10. June 2007 - Teaser/trailer
Today we shot the trailer to our movie Red Terror. After we’d overcome the troubles caused by missing actors, time pressure and location, we started shooting in the afternoon to assure great lighting under the Australian sun. Both actors were extremely supporting and patient enabling the crew to work at their best. The result is a visually stunning and effective trailer.
I hope you enjoy watching it.
